Welcome to Bright Beginnings Preschool!

I assume if you are looking at this page it is because you would like to learn more about my preschool and what it has to offer!  I'm so excited you chose to check my preschool out!  Feel free to call me if you have any questions!

Why is a high-quality preschool education important?

Children who attend a high-quality preschool have more success in life and in school than those children who do not attend a high-quality preschool (Lamy, 2013; Glenn-Applegate, Justice & Kaderavek, 2016; Borhans, Golsteyn & Zolitz, 2015).

Studies have shown that children who attend high-quality preschools have higher standardized test scores, are more likely to graduate high school, and are less likely to be convicted of a crime (Lamy, 2013; Glenn-Applegate et al., 2016).

What are the characteristics of a high-quality preschool?

Teachers that had a higher education (bachelors degree or higher),
Teachers with experience in child development and the skills to teach early learning,
Teachers who were consistently taking professional development classes to enhance their teaching,
Teachers who used research-based curriculums
Teachers that mix their teaching day between teacher-centered teaching time, and small group learning time (Lamy, 2013).

What makes Bright Beginning Preschool a high-quality preschool?

* I have taught school for over 12 years, 6 years in the public school system, and 6 years teaching preschool.

* I have a bachelors degree in Elementary Education, and will have my Master's degree in Education Administration will be done at the end of 2018.

*  I teach using research-based strategies.

*I teach using dual coding and multi-linguistic strategies.  Studies are showing that when presenting information in multiple language modes within one form, such as through print, spoken word, and sign language, there is the potential to increase student learning.  Teaching using more than one coding strategy has been shown to enhance and excel the learning environment for young children (Moses, Golos, and Bennett, 2015).

*And most importantly, I teach students to read and love it!  A love for learning makes all the difference!

* We will have 2 field trips this year!  Each year I have had different field trips.  So far we have gone to a fire station, a pumpkin patch, and a tour of the library.  I haven't decided for sure where we are going to be going for the coming year, but for sure the kids will love it!
* We have really fun class parties such as for Christmas, Halloween, Valentine's day, and an "Unbirthday" party.
* We also have an end of the year program for parents to come see some of the songs and dances the kids have been learning.  This will be the same day as the preschool graduation.

What makes this preschool different from other preschools?
In my preschool, from the very beginning, I will be sending home each child with two books a week that they can read and keep.  The books will come home in a bookbinder that they can keep so that even though in kindergarten the focus may not be on reading skills, you can still sit with your child at night and they will have TONS of books to choose from the bookbinder that they can read all by themselves!  By doing this, they won't go backward in their education even though reading is not always emphasized in kindergarten.  I know that your child isn't going to be ready from the beginning of the year to start blending words, but they can start learning reading skills such as words are segmented groups of letters, that words can make a sentence, use picture clues to figure out words they don't know, that words have a beginning and ending sound, and you don't have to know how to blend a word to start learning sight words!  From September through January we will be working a lot on letter names, sounds, and sight words, then, at the end of January we begin word blending and word families.    In order to give each student more one-on-one time, I will have another teacher working with me and the students will be broken down into small groups and will work in centers.

I have 4 centers:
Reading:  At this center the kids work on their letter names, sounds, writing the letters, and practice reading their books and word blending.
Math:  At this center, the kids work on counting objects, puzzles, writing their numbers, and they will do soooooo many crafts, which will help with their fine motor skills such as cutting, pasting, and they learn to follow directions and do things in sequential order.
Activity Center:  At this center, the kids will be able to do the activity on their own.  It will either be an activity to increase their fine motor skills such as beading bracelets or playing with play dough, or it might be a math skill activity such as sorting, puzzles, or blocks, or a letter review activity.  Something fun that they can take charge of themselves!

Handwriting: This is a chance for kids to practice writing the letters the correct way, writing sentences, and their names, addresses and phone numbers.

I do a TON of teaching through song!  Kids LOVE to sing and dance, and it is a great way to learn!  I have songs for sight words, math skills, spelling, and letters and sounds.  They love it!
Tons of one-on-one time!  The other teacher will be pulling the kids out during group time to work with them individually on letters and sounds speed, and reading.  With all of the constant progress monitoring, I will know where your child is at individually at all times!
My Experience:
Certified teacher in elementary education through the state of Idaho.
*  I taught 4 years as a 6th grade teacher.
*  I taught 1 year as a 1st grade teacher.
*  Worked for School District #93 in Idaho Falls as a supervisor over their federal programs (which included their preschools, extended kindergartens, and title one programs).
*I have been teaching preschool for 6 years out of my home.
I feel my degree in education along with my experience as a teacher in the schools has really given me a great perspective on what children need to know to be successful in school.

Recommendations:

My son had the best preschool experience possible attending Sherri's Bright Beginnings pre-school. He loved going, her teaching style kept him engaged, and he was very well prepared to start kindergarten. Every mom in our neighborhood wanted their children to attend Bright Beginnings!

Bright Beginnings Preschool is amazing!  I absolutely love the curriculum that is used as well as the huge bonus of Mrs. Beck being a certified teacher.  You do not get credentials like she has very often for a reasonable priced preschool.  I highly recommend Bright Beginnings Preschool to anyone!

I love Bright Beginnings Preschool!  My daughter loves it too.  I love the 4 day a week program because I think it will help her adjust better to the 5 day school week for kindergarten.  I love how much she has learned.  She loves the sight word and color songs that she learns each week. She sings them all the time and I know it has helped her learn and retain what she has learned.   She is now reading and spelling kindergarten sight words and loves to sound out other unknown words wherever we go. I love having a calendar each month and books that we can read together at night that she brings home from preschool.I can't say enough good things about it, I highly recommend this preschool to anyone that wants their child to be really prepared for kindergarten.
